Skin Care Bootcamp

Its time we took a good hard look at our bathrooms, vanity tables, bedside table and all the other nooks we hide all those skincare products.

I want you all to take a look at your products.  Do you know:

  • How much of it has active ingredients and how much is filler?

  • How many of them have similar claims on the results they will produce?

  • Do you actually notice a positive change using them?

  • Is it just better than other products so you keep it, even though the results are mediocre?

It is okay, we have all been there!

But here is what I recommend you do going forward. Ready?

BUY ONE PRODUCT THAT HAS ACTIVE MEDICAL-GRADE INGREDIENTS THAT DOES THE JOB IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO IN A TIMELY MANNER.

While you may feel medical-grade products are too expensive, consider how many half-used products are sitting on your shelf.  Purchasing a high-quality skincare product will be one cost that reaps amazing results. At a later date, we will discuss what the term angel dusting means.

Here is a simple routine checklist on how to use your products in the most effective order morning and night.

MORNING ROUTINES:

1: Cleanse cleanse cleanse.  Just because you washed your face at night doesn’t mean it is still clean first thing in the am.  Think of how frequently you actually change your pillowcase, dust your overhead fan, dust your nightstand or change your PJs.  Germs and bacteria love to live off this stuff. Help your skin and wash it morning and night. Some even do a double cleanse at night.  ;)

2: Toner. Start your day out best by balancing your pH which keeps skin radiant and free of bacteria. This is important because all sorts of things (alcohol, makeup, pollution, etc) can shift your natural skin PH.

3: Serums are next. If you use multiple serums give each of them a minute to soak in before applying the next. When they are no longer tacky to touch, your skin is ready to apply the next one.

4: Eye creams are essential to caring for your eyes. I recommend an application of eye cream directly after my last serum so they both soak in at the same time.

5: Moisturizer and SPF.  I put this category together since my absolute favourite SPF also doubles as a moisturizer.  I use AlumierMd’s versatile tint 40 SPF moisturizer. This saves me a step and allows me to get my makeup done a lot faster in the morning.  If you don’t have this product, you can absolutely separate the two steps. But please for the love of your skin don’t skip the SPF!!

EVENING ROUTINES:

1: Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse.  But for real after a long day, a double cleanse can be a good thing.  First to take the day off your face, second to actually clear your pores.

2: Serums- at night these serums are usually exfoliators such as retinol or acids.

3: Nighttime eye serums, think retinol or heavier products that can help repair cell damage overnight.

4: Moisturizer, you don’t need SPF overnight, so here you can use a richer product that helps hydrate the skin from the days damage.
