Pollution Protection for the Skin

Summer of 2020 has come in HOT, and with spending more time at home due to COVID19, people are working outdoors, on their homes and enjoying the outdoor spaces at home or close by to get us through the hot spell. So how do we age gracefully age but enjoy this dangerously wonderful summer season?

We preach the need for SPF daily.

When clinics shut down to flatten the curve, the skincare business was skyrocketing. Hopefully, you heard about the importance of your skincare as the number one defence to aging gracefully throughout the crisis, how vital it is to choose medical-grade products and have decided to embrace and hop on the SPF train.

So you are with us!

You get it!

You know SPF protects from harmful UVA and UVB rays. It is the number one defence in terms of protecting your skin.

But what about pollution? With 54% of our population living in an urban center, this is a huge environmental concern. Studies have shown that people who live in the city age 10% faster than those who live in the countryside. Pollution minimizes the skin’s natural barrier function, leaving it more susceptible to dehydration, irritation, dull and uneven tone, increased acne and premature aging.

Even if you are doing the right things in terms of medical-grade products and SPF, your skin can be protected further, especially as you are exposed to pollution and this hot and humid weather.

I got you!

Routines and the right products will go a long way in protecting your skin from pollution. Here are three simple steps that will go a long way to fight pollutions effects on your skin.

1. ALWAYS make sure to cleanse your face in the morning.

Removing dirt, oil and any debris from your pillow, sleep and generally feels good on your skin. Prepare your skin for the protection that is to follow.

2. Serums are essential!

Serums are an essential second step to help lessen the effects of pollution and help prevent further damage to your skin. Serum targets the effects of free radicals and glycation, which can have toxic and dangerous properties that affect the skin. It also addresses the harmful effects of pollution with an innovative ingredient that traps a large portion of the particulate matter from entering your skin. This innovation helps by preventing the contamination from being internalized and harming your skin. Think of it as a filter for your skin. It traps pollution in a biomimetic shield, preventing the irritation and thus minimizing the effects of pollution.

3. Cleanse again… at night.

When you cleanse your skin at night, you remove trapped pollution that has accumulated in the shield. You never want to go to sleep at night without removing the makeup, dirt, oil and any debris that your serum has caught to protect you.

My favourite and most trusted serum choice is Alumience A.G.E. It is called AGE for clear reasons, most significantly to fix glycation in the skin. Glycation refers to a slow naturally-occurring process that involves the cross-linking of sugars with proteins, lipids and nucleic acids, which leads to the formation of advanced glycation end products in the skin. (Hence the name Alumience A.G.E). In other words, glycation is harmful. It results in the stiffening of collagen and elastin fibres leading to a loss in elasticity and premature aging. Oxidative stress is a phenomenon caused by an imbalance of cells and tissues in the body, and this accelerates glycation.

The benefits seen from this serum are:

  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles

  • Biomimetic shield (a filter) against urban pollution and smog

  • purifies asphyxiated dull and devitalized skin

  • prevents pollution-induced irritation and premature aging

  • boosts skin radiance and improves skin tone

  • increases skin firmness

  • increases skin smoothness and hydration

We have filters in our cars, mechanics, homes and appliances. We are always striving to minimize pollution in our cities, communities, and homes.

Isn’t it time to protect your skin with a needed filter?

Make your skin safe from pollution and reap the benefits that will result. If you have questions and are still curious about how to protect your skin, reach out.
